Bar Mitzvot have turned into major theatrical productions, involving whole teams to orchestrate them, and some where along the line the essential word "Mitzvah" has been tossed aside. A Mitzvah is a good deed, the act of giving. This article describes a Bar Mitzvah where the boy in question actually performs Mitzvot in honor of the important people in his life, and then tells about his mitzvot during the ceremony. This is a unique approach to the coming of age event, and an approach which, as far as I know, has only ever been done once:
